A lovely morning in Colchester saw the penultimate weekend of the Sunday League - with the big game of the day the Thornavon Cup Final at Wivenhoe. Facing up yet again were old rivals AFC Pegasus and AFC Phoenix and yet again this year it was AFC Phoenix who came out on top winning the silverware by three goals to two. On target for Phoenix were Gregory, Byford & Woolgar. This victory gives AFC Phoenix the treble - so well done Scott Maul and his team - 2007/08 - the year of the Phoenix !!
Just one match in the Premier Division saw Blackhammer beat Knights Allstars 3-0 with a Scott Page hat-trick.
In Division One, Real BTS hopes of a clean swep of victories in the league were undone by SC Kelvedon Res. Kelkvedon went two with goals from Roulston & Spears, Real hit back with goals from Joy & Smithen but in the end the points were shared. AFC Pegasus Res moved up to fifth spot after their 4-1 win at home to Northgate Athletic. Doig & Harrison both got a brace while Whitnell consoled the \'gate. Highwoods Foxash travelled to St Edmnuds and came away with the points, winning 5-3 with goals from Evans (3), Macklin & Stewart, Chay Hammarton got a hat-trick for St Edmunds.
In Division Two Chapple & Wakes Colne look to have confirmed second place after they put nine past Oyster Legion without reply. On target for C&WC were Davis (4), Monk (3), Weir & Allison.
The Division Three title is going down to the very last game as current leaders Colne Star won at AFC Phoenix Res 3-1. Turner got the Phoenix goal. Challengers for the top spot Blueforces beat Pitchbury 5-1 to stay right on Colne Star\'s tail. A hat-trick for Peat plus one for Revie & White saw them home after Pitchbury had taken the lead through Hopley. Just one game left for Blueforces and a win will give them the title. The final match in Division Three this morning saw Polstead go down 4-1 at Villa Royal who had Knight & Thomas both getting a couple, Pym got the Polstead consolation.
Borrussia Thorpmund remain unbeaten in Division Four and move up to third after their 5-0 win over AFC Lexden. Ribchester, Crocuh, Boyce, Lewis & Oldhamstead got the goals. FC Byair & FC Drury played out a double-header this morning with the first match ending in a 2-2 draw. Searle & Butler scored for Byair with Love & Newcombe replying for Drury. The second match ended in a 3-1 win for Byair; goals from Brady (3) & Butler gave them the points with Burrows scoring for Drury.
FC Drury Res look like they might be down after they lost at Feering Utd Res 4-3. Fisher, Fitzgerald, Irons & Archer scored for Feering with Ersapah, Garrard & an o.g the scorers for Drury. Elmstead AThletic moved into second place after their double-header with Tolleshunt D\'arcy. The first game ended with a 1-0 win to Elmstead thanks to a D\'arcy own goal, the second game ended 0-0. Tollegion Res moved out of the relegation zone with two wins in their double-header with Colchester Deaf. Baker, Webb & Tombs gave them a 3-0 win in the first match, Baker (2), Horsfall, and the Rollo boys, Sam & Ben gave them a 5-1 win in the second.
In Division Six ten man St Edmunds got a draw at division winners Colchester Athletic. Todd (2), Auty, Napolitano & Cheesebrough scored for Athletic with Mander (2), Karolchyk (2) & Leyland replying for St Edmunds.
