Arthur Boswell Cup – Match Report

As the 2023-2024 League Season got underway, we headed to Holland FC for the Arthur Boswell Cup fixture between CO4 Ultras V Kings Park, as both teams looked to start their season with some silverware.

Whilst the game took a little while to really get going, when it did, both teams had their fair share of chances during the first half, without being able to make these count. Kings Park forward Terrence Kangandu had the first real chance however was met by a save from Dave Kerr in the CO4 goal, before Lyndon Bramhall found himself through on goal and presented with a one-on-one but was unable to hit the target having done all of the hard work.

Later in the half, CO4 had a similar opportunity of their own when some good interchanges high up the pitch and some persistence from Bogdan Anghel saw him breach the backline and one-on-one with Connor Needs in the Kings Park goal, however he too was unable to hit the target put it wide when it was probably easier to score!

As the half drew to a close, Terrence Kangandu had another presentable chance to put Kings Park ahead, but despite making a good connection, saw his shot go wide. This was the last real action of the first half as the whistle was sounded.

Half Time: CO4 Ultras 0-0 Kings Park

The second half started in much the same manner as the first had ended, with both chances coming out looking to get on the front foot and creating chances, but once again being unable to really capitalise on the chances they created. Kings Park found themselves with the first presentable opportunity, when Chris Kyriacou managed to get a shot away, but was met by a save from Dave Kerr in the CO4 goal, before Lyndon Bramhall was the next to shoot wide.

CO4 responded with Mason Teenans finding a shooting opportunity, but being met by a save from Connor Needs in the Kings Park goal, before CO4 saw Jack Webb issued a yellow card for what is known as a ‘tactical foul’ as he stopped a Kings Park counter attack.

Kings Park again pushed and Jake Richardson was the next to shoot wide, before Kings Park evened up the card count, with Scott Humphries the next to be shown a yellow.

CO4 continued to press forward and some good work from Jack Stoneman to get forward saw Harry Hewes presented with a chance, but he could only shoot wide. After CO4 were presented with a free-kick, Josh Oliver was the next to try his luck, but his shot was comfortably saved.

Ziggy Lambton was next to shoot, but he also shot wide. Kings Park responded with Terrence Kangandu heading wide from a good cross, Lyndon Bramhall being foiled by a save once again from Kerr in the CO4 goal, Alex Hayes hitting a post and then in the next attack trying to lob the keeper, only to be met once again by a save.

Further chances came for both teams, but with neither able to make a breakthrough, the Referee blew for full time which meant we entereda period of extra-time.

CO4 started the additional period on the front foot and after Josh Oliver found his shot met by a save, it wouldn’t be long before CO4could finally hit the target, as Ryan Brown played a great ball down the line for Wesley Henry to run on to, and as the ball found its way to the middle of the box, Terrence Kelly was there to finish.
